WOMEN OF BEEKEEPER: MEET EMILY
My name is Emily, and I am from Oakland, CA and currently living and working in Zurich. My passions are learning new skills and tools, reading - historical fiction is my favorite genre -, spending time with and talking to people, and enjoying the outdoors through hiking and camping.
My goal at Beekeeper is to make sure we always offer our customers and users a positive and reliable experience using our platform by making sure all of our changes to the product meet our quality standards.

Do you have a guiding principle, motto,
or quote you live by?
To get the full flavor out of life, you have to take big bites.
Who is your role model, who inspires you?
Andrée de Jongh.
How do you measure your success?
I measure my success by whether I am proud of my work, and whether the results of it are positively impacting others.
What is your proudest moment in your professional career?
On a high level, one of the prouder moments for me professionally, was sticking with my goal of working on the product side of a company despite my lack of a technical degree or background. It was easy to feel disheartened when originally looking at jobs and seeing that you needed XYZ degree and X years of experience for an entry level job on the product side, but I didn't give up on wanting to move into that space. In retrospect, it was defining for me now to not have settled for a job I was less interested in but rather to keep pushing for what I was really interested in doing.
What is your advice to young women
If you feel strongly about an opportunity or idea, don't feel discouraged when first setting out after it and do everything you can to make it happen.
Overcoming my own fear of speaking up about my opinion on things and owning those opinions.
What is the biggest challenge
you’ve ever faced as a woman in tech?
I founded an organization called 'Active for Alzheimer's' at Berkeley which is still in existence now, helping to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer's.
What personal achievements are you proud of?
