3 Ways Mobile Technology Can Leverage C-level Communication with Employees

Communication between C-level executives and employees is a crucial but often overlooked part of employee engagement strategy. The most common reason is executives simply feel like they don’t have the time to spend on this type of communication. However, with the increasing use of mobile technology, that’s changing for C-level communication.

Here are three ways mobile technology can help C-level executives communicate more effectively with their employees:

1. Improve Onboarding Effectiveness

Mobile technology can help with onboarding new employees, which is crucial since 40 percent of employee turnover occurs in the first month. Mobile technology can be used to bring employees on board more effectively and efficiently. Executives can communicate with these new employees without losing much of their busy workday, and employees will appreciate feeling included. In fact, many employees “appreciate getting homework and watching presentation to get acclimated to the company and industry,” according to Susan Vitale, the chief marketing officer of iCIMS. Employees want to know the company they are joining and getting to know the leaders is a great way to do that.

2. Interact with Employees from Anywhere

According to Entrepreneur, employee engagement comes from a two-way interaction between employees and executives. Ideally, that would mean executives leave their office and mingle with employees in real life, but that isn’t always an option. Using a mobile platform allows executives to interact with employees around the world—and more importantly, it allows those employees to interact with the executives. This is especially essential to non-desk employees who likely have never interacted with executives. Since 72% of employees already use mobile devices, using that technology to reach employees is essential.

3. Encourage Belief in Senior Leadership

An overwhelming 70 percent of employees who lack confidence in senior leadership are not fully engaged, according to a study by Dale Carnegie. And employees who aren’t engaged are less productive and more likely to leave the company. Thanks to mobile technology, C-level executives can show employees who they are and what they believe by simply pulling out their phone.

According to Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman, the authors of First, Break All the Rules, “Employee engagement is a direct reflection of how employees feel about their relationship with the boss. Employees look at whether organizations and their leader walk the talk when they proclaim that, ‘Our employees are our most valuable asset.’” For employees to know how they’re the executives of their company feel about them, they need to be in communication with them. Mobile technology makes that easier than ever.
